Piano Solo

A Collection of eighteen separate piano solo pieces

This collection was performed by Dr. Yeagley as his senior piano recital at Oberlin Conservatory, December 17, 1974. They average from 2 to 4 minutes in length, each, and the entire program is about 60 minutes. The compositions date from 1970. They are a continuation of compositions begun in 1969. (There were smaller collections, Soul I and Soul II, performed on separate occasions.) The pieces are all Romantic and Impressionistic in musical and pianistic style.

Dr. Yeagley performed a number of these works at the National Museum of the American Indian, in October, 2006. Some of these performances are posted on the internet. The most popular of those is No. 5, “Intervention.”

SOUL III

Printed music (entire collection of 18 pieces), 41 pages, $30.00 (includes shipping.)

Oklahoma City, OK 73147

The Oberlin recital was broadcast on Connecticut Public Radio (and elsewhere), December 16, 1984, exactly ten years later. In 1989, it was sold as cassett tape, under the French title, “De L’Âme Levée,” with all French titles for the individual pieces. More recently, the entire recital program is available on a CD, “Soul III,” in English.

While still a student at Oberlin, Yeagley conceived of the idea of publishing these piano works as “Études in Nuance,” since the preponderant aspect of performance is sound control. The present printed edition of the music contains only the dynamic markings, not even the tempo markings. It is highly recommended that the CD be purchased as the chief tutoring devise.

SOUL III (CD of Yeagley’s live Oberlin performance, 1974)
