Sonata for Piano

The Sonata for Piano is the first major piano solo work by David Yeagley using his new system of harmonic organization. Yeagley has written numerous piano solo works, but this one is the first employing the harmonic system he began developing in 1994, at the University of Arizona, where he studied with Daniel Asia. (Yeagley received his Doctorate in Musical Arts in August, 1994, and majored in piano performance and minored in composition.)

The Sonata for Piano is in four movements, and follows the classical sonata form. It also involves both late Romantic gestures, and innovative shapes and expression.

Hymn for the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas

Hymn for the Indegenous Peoples of the Americas is a commissioned work. It was commissioned in 2000 by José Cordero. The text is the poem of Saint Francis (1181-1226), Hymn to the Sun.

The work is scored for full orchestra, mezzo-soprano solo, children’s chorus (two-part), and audience. It is intended for the opening or closing of any large, public concert.

A Cross Shines Over the City

A Cross Shines Over the City is a memorial for the victims who died in the bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, April 19, 1995. It is also a hymn to the noble spirit of the city at that time. The composer lives in Oklahoma City, and was present when the tragedy occurred. This composition was written at that time.

The music is scored for S.A.T.B., organ, and piano. It was written for congregational setting, but the music is considered tonally difficult.

A collection of compositions for solo cello, “The Apocalypse” collection, includes pairs of pieces, a slower first movement, and a faster second movement. The works were inspired by the beautiful performance talent of Tess Remy-Schumacher. Ms. Remy-Schumacher, a recording artist, professor, and concertizing musician, performs on an extraordinary violincello, made for her personally in recent years. In the future, Ms. Remy-Schumacher may be performing works from ”The Apocalypse” collection.

Violin Concerto

Concerto for solo violin and orchestra, in three movements: Moderato, Lento Andante, and Vivacissamament. The second movement, Lento Andante, includes piano, gong, tubular bells, suspended cymbol, and timpani. This work was first printed, June, 2010. It has not been performed.

“Daughter of Dawn” Movie Score

A work commissioned by the Oklahoma State Historical Society, “Daughter of Dawn” is an 80-minute symphonic score written as the sound track to a 1920 silent movie, “Daughter of Dawn.” It was commissioned in December, 2007. It is score for full orchestra, and comprises non-repetitive music to match the story on screen. Dr. Yeagley is the first American Indian classical composer to be commissioned for a full-length movie score.

The movie is the first American Indian drama, and feature all Indian actors, Comanche and Kiowa. It is based on legends and love stories, and protrays, among other scenes, a buffalo hunt. It was filmed in the Witchita Mountains of southwestern Oklahoma.

3 Serenades

3 Serenades (2006), for guitar solo, were written for American Indian guitarist Gabriel Ayala. Serenade No.3 (the last of the set) was performed by Mr. Ayala at the National Museum of the American Indian, in Washington, DC., October 8, 2006. It is perhaps the more pensive of the three.
